Jeff Coffin and Futureman at AMRO Music

Last Thursday was such a special night at Amro Music, as Jeff Coffin and Futureman presented a unique, entertaining and educational clinic.  Coffin, a Yamaha artist and three time Grammy Award winner, currently plays saxophone with the Dave Matthews Band.  He also plays with his own project, the Mu'Tet.  They are celebrating a new CD entitled Into the Air.  Jeff spent time  touring with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, where he met Roy 'Futureman' Wooten, drummer. ... Chip Averwater - Retail Truths

Chip Averwater is the chairman of Amro Music Stores.  His family has owned and operated Amro since 1921.   He is a fascinating man and one of the sharpest businessmen I have ever encountered.  When my career began at Amro in 1997, Chip was  president of the company.  I watched him take the band business to a whole new level.  He is an expert retailer and a wealth of information.  Lucky for us, he has compiled his wisdom into a new book,  "Retail... Memphis Music Foundation and Rock 103

Memphis Music Foundation hosted Rock 103 at their beautiful downtown facility on Thursday evening.  Rock 103 is in search of great music for their local music show, Memphis Made.  Dean Deyo, president of the MMF, put the word out and the connections were made!  Thanks to Rock 103 for supporting local  music.  Not only does Dean and his staff at MMF support local music, but Dean makes a pretty mean barbecue  meatball!! Pictured here with Miss Rita Wood - check... Read More

More Great Music in Memphis....

I found myself on Beale Street last night after a work function at the Rock 'n Soul Museum (which is awesome by the way).  My co-workers and I ended up at the Blues City Cafe to see the Stunning Cunning Band.  What a treat!  They played some great Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Stray Cats, Sonny Burgess....the list goes on.  Up front singing and having a good time is Brandon Cunning - he's a lot of fun.  The whole band sings, including guitarist extraordinaire Brian... Wayne gets a new trumpet!

Wayne Jackson, of the Memphis Horns, has been playing a Bach Stradivarius trumpet most of his life.  Those famous horn lines we all know and love were played on a Strad.  Wayne was recently honored with a LIfetime Achievement Award by Conn-Selmer, creators of the Bach Stradivarius trumpet.  Wayne's achievements inspired  Conn-Selmer to institute their very own Hall of Fame, Jackson being their first inductee. He is, without a doubt, the ultimate Bach artist.  What a... Read More

Welcome To My Website!

I had the idea of building this website while recording my recent CD with Darren Jay, Drink My Wine.  I am fortunate to live in Memphis, a city with a unique musical heritage and a vast storehouse of incredibly talented musicians.  It is a privilege to be part of the music community here.  So I thought it would be fun to start a website that would feature Memphis musicians and Memphis music – which has really changed the world.  And I also wanted to share something about...
